Hi all,
So it's funny what my brain churns over when I am sleeping. I finally managed to pull together my idea for an e-mail style battle game. Picking up a name as I went. My big problem was how could this be done making it fair to both players. My answer was a third person doing the scoring. So I present to you
Dawnspire Domination - E-mail Battles. Rules
An e-mail battle game over 6 rounds.
The idea is as follows. 2 players decide they want to challange each other to an e-mail battle. First they both create an e-mail with the same title, for an example lets use Hullu vs Swiss. Next they choose a class, then six of the skills from that classes set of 10. Some of the skills will have to be rewritten slightly/completely so that they fit the game. We need a balance between attack and defence. Anyway once they have chosen there 6 skills (attack/defence), trying to second guess there opponents, they post these e-mails to a scorer. The scorer as you would guess then scores the match and posts the results on a sticky thread.
As I said some of the skills will have to be rewritten. I am trying to keep this easy for the scorer to score, so no levels per skill. all skills are max level. All characters also have the same amount of life. no % of damage done. It's straight up damage or save.
The following rules wouuld be set in stone.
attack vs attack = both sides take damage. attack vs defence = defence wins all the time. If an attack does damage over rounds then only the round the defence is used would that damage be cancelled. Some defences will be set up to do a small amount of return damage. defence vs defence = nothing much happens. Each skill can only be used once so there is no chance of anyone spamming defence skills all game. If a player uses a skill more than once in a game he loses the game automatically. As it would be to much hassle for the scorer to e-mail back and forth.
We could also set up a league table with a win getting you 3 points and a draw 1 point.
You win a game if after 6 rounds you have killed your opponent or have more life left.
I just thought it might keep us interested as a small community on a small new forum.
what do you think?

Forum wars sound really good, but we shouldn't make the skills out of nowhere, keep the normal cooldown and mana/stamina costs. But then we'd need to make some rules or whatever.

only 1vs1 matches i think its better to make rules for bigger fights like 5vs5 or so on, then some classes have big disadventages in 1vs1

First of all, we'd need to make mechanics of how would anything at all work.

I was thinking that but it all gets a little complicated for the person trying to score it. Keep it simple to start and see how we go. If it's popular we can then expand it and they and get it automated.
Once I have rejigged the skills to fit the first version you will see no one should be at a disadvantage. if they are we can boost there skills or nerf the others.

One way to do it would be oldschool paper and pen game style. For one way example, there would be "dungeon master", in this game we could call it the "game master" or whatever. But anyway, that game master would be the one running the game. Everyone chooses classes, skills and sides and informs the game master about that. He would mark them and the would begin. Then, we would play in "rounds". Everyone PMs or someway tells the game master where they move (we could have ascii map for that) or what skills they use and for who. Basically, cooldowns, mana/stamina cost, range, positions, everything would still matter, like they did in the game.

An example of a fight between 2 Prowlers. Both players have 350 hp. All players have 350 hp.
Player one player 2 Round 1 Multi (atk) vs Call companion (atk) Player 1 takes 100dmg and goes to 250hp Player 2 takes 72 damage and falls to 278
Round 2 Suppressive (atk) vs reinvigorate (def) Player 1 takes no damage stays at 250hp player 2 takes no damage this round stays at 278
Round 3 Shriek (def) vs Multi (atk) Player 1 takes no damage as he defends Stays at 250hp Player 2 takes 45 dmg from shriek+40 dmg from Suppressive goes to 193hp
Round 4 Aimed (atk) vs Shriek (atk) Player 1 takes 45 damage and goes to 205hp Player 2 takes no dmg from aimed and blocks the dmg from Suppressive 193hp.
Round 5 Reinvigorate (def) vs Aimed (atk) Player 1 takes no dmg stays at 205hp Player 2 takes 40 dmg from the last round of suppressive goes to 153hp.
Round 6 Call (atk) vs Sacrafice (def) Player 1 takes no damage as 205hp Player 2 takes no dmg as bird absorbed blow stays at 153hp.
Player 1 wins with higher hit points gets 3 league points.
Now that's taken a while to type in. that's why I wanted to keep it simple. I think it will work this way.

More or less along the same line. But we are only going to use it within the forum for a bit of fun and to get us to come to the forum in the first place. If we haven't got Dawnspire we could at least have this. Your idea could be something we build on once we are happy with how this works. With your/rens idea we could have 2 sides of 5 each taking a turn over a few days. As you say sending there turn to the GM. That could be the longer GvG version of the game. We could all stay in our Guilds to play it. again with 3 points to the winning team for the guild league. we could even use the original maps in Ascii Will take some doing but if we all pulled together it might be fun.

That was only an example it would be refined. If I could get the icons on bard it would work a lot better.
