I have great difficulty to play due to major lagspikes. I think it is on the master server side, but I am not 100% sure. I am not alone, it seems. Perhaps a restart, Johan? / Pimp

That is really cool. So the masterserver is actually affecting gameplay? I thought it was just like "masterserver tells you about what servers you can join, and then just sits back tight".

No I think the master server plays a part in your connection to other servers and the transmittion of data between. Kind of like a middle man I think.

That's why when the master server goes down, you get disconnected from any server you are on and can't log on or join any servers etc.

But yeah, I've been getting lag spikes too... but my internet has just recovered from some problems on my ISP side, so I didnt know if it was just my internet or not. The master server has been up a long time, so a restart wouldn't hurt I imagine.

The spikes and stuff wouldn't be caused by changes to the master server would they?... Because I know the homepage has been changed etc.

Would a server restart have any major side effects or has it been done before?

The master server only takes care of the server list, characters / accounts and game stats. But server do transmit map status and player list to the master server so that is why things go bad when the master server goes down.

But I don't think that a restart would help and more importantly I can't restart it as the master server is hosted on my web host and I don't really think that they would bring down hundreds of customers just for me. But they are currently migrating to a newer and much more stable platform so things will probably be much better in the future.

That might explain the spikes then if they are migrating. I tried my server there which sadly no one seems able to connect to. Any way one or two tiny spikes at most. maybe the problem has passed.

I have restarted everything at my end (ADSL-modem, router and server), and it seems better now.  Smiley / Pimp
