SO Dawnspire for all its strengths never really had a deep back story or much lore. It had a basic outline to cover the game http://dawnspire.tinyrocket.se/#backgroundStory and back ground for each class but ultimately it was the players within the community that created the the history with their skill and battles fought. All well and good but for me it needed to be deeper yet still leave room for the history to breath and expand. With this in mind as part of my plan I set out to sketch a history in even in the most briefest of senses. I set the history across 4 epochs of Alendere, ensuring one would weave into the next. I never did finish it but here is what I put together. I will post a new section each day or so.

“It made light from darkness
So that we could live in the shadows”

Anonymous

Countless times the universe had come and gone till there was only the creator and the cold darkness of the void. The creator was the energy in all things, the substance of being. From the creator were born the pantheon of gods, chief amongst them is Fernal, god of fates, the trickster. From the beginning the gods gazed upon the creator’s power with envious eyes, each coveting it for their own. The creator, all knowing, all seeing must have acknowledged his destiny, what lay ahead. But the gods were its children, and it tired of being. For eons they existed in the stillness of the void, suckling upon the creator teats, growing and scheming. Then came creation. The gods had tired of their place in things, had come to resent all that the creator stood for. They sought to take it, piece by piece. They swarmed over the creator, clawing and biting at its flesh, tearing at its sinew, breaking its bones and drinking of its blood. The creator screamed, silently in the void. It was a scream of pain, a scream of joyous release and of a final end. Its smashed bones they cast into the void and they became the stars. Its blood became the nebula and the source of all living things in the universe. Its heart fell from their grasp and became the centre of the cosmos, the light in all things; its flesh drifted into small clusters and formed the planets and moons. The creator was dead, his power consumed, his body cast into the void to live on as the universe. The gods watched over this universe and each other, lustful of the power contained within each of them, mourning the creator and the warmth of its love in such a cold universe.

So with this bit of lore I tried to built a working calander for the world but keep it interesting by sprinkeling the account with various bits of info.
“Life is marked in time
and time is marked with the passing of life."

The Astronomer and Archaeologist Heraclus devoted much of his life to the study of the stars, the sun and 3 moons and their movements in orbit around the world of Alendere. He was the first to theorise that the sun and moons did not orbit this world but that it in fact orbited one or more of them, a theory that still to this day is widely and hotly debated. He also studied the ancient writings and ruins of the long dead Aztals, the first of the many. Legend goes that the Aztals were the original descendants of the gods themselves and from them come all other races upon the world. The Humans; Dwarfs; Reavers; Valkyrie; (Shadow)Blade, Giants; Rippers and Orachi of whom the common witch is descended to name but a few. From these studies he was able to draw together “the cyclical nature of the heavens”, a hefty tome of some 5 volumes. From this work he was able to reconstruct a working calendar based on the original Aztal hieroglyphs corresponding to the stars as they hung in the night sky at that moment. Using this calendar Heraclus was able to create a time-line of events for the first time in recorded history, beginning with the arrival of the gods. The calendar was quickly adopted across the world, and is now standard teaching.

Heraclus worked out that each day was 28 hours long, and a year was 400 days in total. Using the Aztal hieroglyphs as a guide he also worked out that there were 11 months in a year. Each month named after a cardinal sign of the 33 signs of the zodial table. Each month contained 36 days but for the last month which contained 40 days to account for something known as the feast of foes when all three moons were full in the heavens. The only time this happened all year. He theorised that the numbering for the days would be sequential and would not reset to zero at the beginning of each subsequent month. The years would count upwards from a day specified by himself and be followed by the letters AC. This stood for Aztal Calendar. The years were remarked as Epochs at the end of the war of magic to signify the first era of peace the world had known in ten millennia.  Below is a copy of the calendar.

Month            Days

Jana              36
Fera              72
Freya            108
Mar            144
Juno            180
Ula            216
Sek            252
Semp            288
Sar            324
Nova            360
Ceeber            400

Before the weave of magic. Before war descended upon the lands like a blight. There existed the arena. A sacred place of worship at the heart of the Deep forest. Here the Reavers of these woods bloodied young warriors in the ways of Tar Zhal. A word which when translated from its original Gelt, the language of the Reavers means Blood War. Crusading Templar's witnessed these rites of passage and on returning to the Walled cities of Alendere told great tales of what they witnessed beneath the 3 moons. Arenas were built across Templar held lands and the sport of Football was born. The Templar's used the ancient relics that lay across the lands. Inert, waiting for the weave to awaken them. The sport grew popular and spread to other races across the world. The objects of the game was simple lift all 3 relics and place them on your relic holders which were controlled by your opponents. Relic Conquest in reverse if you will. When the Great War came these arenas fell silent, the relics within forgotten. But the thirst for magic is all consuming, the call of these relics rings out to all who would listen. The forces of Light and Dark once more descend upon these forgotten arenas for the very same relics they once thought of as merely play things. The war of magic has found new battle grounds. There can be only one victor in these arenas, the Reavers named it well, for only blood is spilled in war. Let battle commence.

Pretty cool Persus. Only one criticism; Chief among the gods was Fernal, you misspelled it, it is spelled F-A-R-O.   Grin
