I want to congratulate you on your first post in the DS forums.

Nah, just kidding, but I imagine putting myself in dev shoes right now. I see this as having low chance of success. I mean, a bunch of hobby-guys pulling this through, on off-timie, trying to make a substancial change it what took THEM years to develop. I mean, if there's potential substantial money there, a slim chance to pull this off just doesn't cut it. I mean, complexity of the code and such is just a matter of forhead thickness. But hey, if you start dishing out some nice changes hmm? There's been plenty of suggestions to what could be done already. I mean, if you have a functioning dev team operating, with results to show for itself, this might sound different.

Again why I say work with what you have in front of you. We already had the football map created from doing just that. Swiss has altered the Bot AI from doing just that. There must be a limit to what you can do using this method but it must be greater than what has been achieved.

It's easy for me to say this cause I can't programme at all. I can cheer you on from the sidelines though and will continue to do so.

Well I wouldn't mind porting DS into UDK. We would have the same old game but this time it would be easily moddable.

Although I wonder whether we have enough motivated people to work on it. Even if we could somehow transfer all the models and textures into UDK it would probably still take close to a year to finish it.

Have to agree with you I wonder as well about the long term motivation and amount of people we have here. It's a huge undertaking and would require those involved to be commited and work to deadlines. We would need to appoint a team leader and set out a path reguarding what gets created and in which order. We would also need to pull all this together somewhere. Would the game then run on a master server?

Well we have the forums here and setting up a Skype chat shouldn't be too hard either. As for master server we either make our own or use the existing one, depending which one is easier.

Thank you very much for such a fast answer.

Well, I'm ready to start importing the models into a new engine.. I do not have a problem with that.

Altho, this is a new subject to me. I have never worked with Engines befor, really :|
Is someone able to explain to me quickly how it's done or just link a guide. Too busy to search for a good one currently.

Okej, I'm currently downloading the tools of UDK and Devs-c++ program...

Ill see if I can complite the core just from the models we have.. we'll see

Could someone please read this carefully ? Sparrisen ? Tongue
http://www.udk.com/licensing

If we would manage to compile the core into this Engine, are we allowed to profit from it at all ?

Actually the UDK does not support C++, you have to do all programming in UnrealScript, if you want C++ support then you will have to pay up bigtime  .... like $750000

If you wish to profit from it I believe they take a large chunk for using the unreal engine. It's free for non commercial development, last I read. I don't remember Henrik mentioning anything about us being able to rip of what we like and profit from it. Any money made should be theirs. We have profited from a free game, given to use by the devs post game closure. I would reckon if they think there is any money to be made from Dawnspire then they them selves would have done it.

If they think it's worthless then sell us the IP (intellectual property).  Smiley

Appearantly you misunderstood me Smiley

I ment, if we manage to compile the core and set it up. Are we allowed to receive donations from others to maintain possibly dedicated servers hosted by "professional hosts" while using their core ?

It seems like I did not really read your post =)

I don't know the answer to that question, would probably be best to just ask Epic about it they have an email address for that at the bottom of the license agreement.

You have to pay 25% of any direct or indirect (for example ads to keep the website up) income you make. But I would worry about making the game first and whether or not there's profit from it later.
